YOU’VE BEEN ASKING ME, NOW I FINALLY HAVE TIME TO ANSWER!

Kelsey, how do you get so many incredible, impossible-to-reach guests on your show? You’re not a huge celeb, you don’t have a million followers, I don’t get it? 

I’m a sparkly unicorn. Obviously. No, honestly, I’m not. I’m a wife and mom with a small following and a tiny budget and giant hair, in suburbia Oklahoma (now LA but when I grew my show for the first few years it was alllll done from Oklahoma.)

So you can believe me when I say I know what it’s like to start from ZERO.

Thinking it’s just Early Adopter Syndrome?

• Well, I know there are a million and one podcast shows and youtube shows and livestream shows now. But I’ve only been around a few years, there were also a lot when I started. Plus, when I started there was still a bit of “podcasts aren’t real media” going on, a hurdle I had because podcasts hadn’t quite exploded yet, and that is definitely gone now! Hooray for us!
• I had zero budget for my show, so if you have a successful business that you’re taking some profit from in order to do this thang, you are WAAAAAY ahead of me. I couldn’t run ads to grow numbers, I didn’t have the best equipment, etc etc.
• Think I had inside connections? Think again! I was a total new name in entrepreneurship, motivation, and I’m still a newbie in entertainment. You probably have a LOT more connections in your industry than I had!

What I had was great pitches, and a unique ability to find key people to send those pitches to. I also follow up like it’s my job. Because it is.

I have A LOT to share about this but I decided to first tackle the most important issues, based on my years of trial and error, pitching to guests, and now, seeing a bunch of pitches to me for people who want to be on my show. 

You’re making four, big hairy ugly mistakes. Or at least you’re probably making 2 or 3 of them.
